At Newton Community Centre we are keen to help people get out of the house and meet up with friends old and new. Feeling isolated can often lead to health problems but popping in for a cuppa and chat could be just the ticket!
We run many informal and friendly groups to give people the opportunity to get together in a relaxed environment – sometimes to learn a new skill or brush up on an old skill OR simply to come for a drink and a chat….
Our Lottery-funded Befriending projects reaches out in the community to those feeling the most isolated – we offer friendship calls and home visits on a weekly basis which leads to people attending the Centre for other events and makes them feel part of the wider Community.
We have a Women’s Group every Tuesday a from 12.30 to 2.30 where we meet to have lunch and either have a Guest Speaker, have a trip out or do crafts…. the group is warm and welcoming and open to women of all ages.
Every Thursday the Centre hosts a Men’s Group from 10.30 to 12.30 and similar to the Womens Group they have Guests Speakers; go our for walks as well as focus on Group projects such as a photography exhibiton or a wellbeing event. For more information about the Men’s Group please call Chris on 07970861062
From healthchecks through to exercise classes for all levels, here at Newton Community Centre we will do all we can to help our community to feel both physically and emotionally well. For full details visit our Whats On page….
We are delighted that our Community Garden is 99% complete
and being used regularly by our Community!
Following successful bids to Tesco, Greggs and Persimmon we
managed to secure funding to make the necessary changes to our field to make it
user friendly and welcoming!
The garden is bright and cheerful with lots of seating areas
and planters filled with sensory plants including lavender, buddleia, herbs and
fruit bushes. The children at Playscheme made their mark (literally!!) by
making “handprint flowers” on one of the walls. It was also a lovely space for
them to have their breakfast outside during Playscheme
We were then delighted when a group of staff from Sky
volunteered to come and paint and garden for us which put the finishing touches
to our fabulous outdoor space.
Thursday’s 4pm-6pm is full of crafts, games, sports and food
for 5-13-year olds. Every week (term time only) with the help of wonderful
volunteers we endeavour to provide a safe, fun environment where the kids can
make, play and have fun! It’s a great way to make new friends or play with old
ones. We have a range of visitors that come and provide a range of different
activities, so far this year we have had drumming man Steve, which the children
loved, sports development will be coming every 2 weeks to provide sport
activities, from football, handball and golf!!
We have lots of Halloween crafts, remembrance and Christmas
crafts/ activities planned in the next couple of months.
Family fun time drop in sessions are relaxed, friendly and offer a range activities including creative activities, story corner, baby corner, construction, small world and many more.
There is always snack time with fresh fruit, crumpets/toast and drinks. Parents and carers also get a tea or coffee.
It is an opportunity for families to learn through play, gain ideas for things to do at home and find how to encourage these developments. It is also a place for children and their family to play and make friends or catch up with old ones
